Not Having enough elbow room can always be a bit uncomfortable for everyone but what does it mean for our protagonist Professor Langdon. Langdon is a Professor who teaches symbolism at Harvard University and was ultimately dragged into the conflict because of his knowledge in Dante's works and the significance that Dante played in Zobrist work as a genetic engineer. Other than deciphering the clues that Zobrist sets up using Dante's work Langdon offers back very little to the main message of novel, but Dan Brown made a symbol of Langdon on the inside. Langdon suffers from claustrophobia, the fear of tight spaces or being trapped in cramped areas, which in a way is ironic. Why is it ironic because in the beginning of the novel when Langdon and Sienna start to understand Zobrist's intentions Langdon meets them with hostility believing that no matter how great the intentions are killing half the population to save the Human race down the road can never be reasonable. Sienna, however, is a little more open minded; Sienna asks Langdon, "Okay. Buyt what if you were told that if you didnt throw that switch right now, the human race would be extint in the next hundred years? Would you throw it then? Even if it meant the murder of friends, family, and possiblyeven yourself?" Langdon responds "Sienna, I can't possibly-" Langdon doesnt see his own symbolism in the novel of course but to us we see that he repsersents a symbol of ironicalness
